Scholarpalooza - Terms and Conditions

It is free to enter Scholarpalooza.

Eligibility

Scholarpalooza 2024 is a Rock Scholars event but is open to any band or artist calling Western Australia home, including solo and acoustic acts.

Bands entering must have an average age of 18 or under and solo acts must be aged 18 or under, as at 1st January, 2024.

Bands must have at least one member resident in Western Australia at the time of entry.

Places in Scholarpalooza 2024 are limited, bands or artists applying to participate will be shortlisted and invited to play in the heats based on the quality of their applications including band biography, pictures and any sound or video recordings submitted. Your application does not guarantee you will be invited to participate in the competition.

Competition format

The competition will consist of five heats, each featuring five bands and artists. All entrants will be required to play a 20min set.

The winner of each heat will be decided by our judges on the night and will automatically earn a place in the Final. One additional 'wildcard' entry from across the five heats may be awarded a place in the Final at the judges' discretion.

The heat-winners and wildcard entry will compete against each other in the Final. The winner of the Final will be announced on the night.

Judging criteria

All heats and the Final will be judged by a panel of independent judges selected from Perth's music community which may include one or more representatives of Rock Scholars.

Bands will be judged on a combination of musical ability, stagecraft, quality of songwriting, originality and WOW factor.

It is not essential to write your own songs and material to enter but original music will be judged more favourably.

The judges' opinion will be final and no appeals will be entered into.
